I recently had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to photograph not one but TWO of my amazing couples for their engagement session. Living in NCWV, we are pretty close to a few bordering states and I get to work in both Pennsylvania and Maryland very often. This means, a lot of the time, my clients aren’t necessarily local to WV and sometimes live in super beautiful places like DC!
I hadn’t visited since I was a child but I had read all the blogs I could find on how to shoot around the monuments, when to shoot, where to shoot, basically ALL THE THINGS. It can sometimes be stressful shooting in an entirely new and different environment but I was so excited to shoot in DC because everything I had ever seen was so gorgeous.
We decided to start our first morning in DC bright and early with Erin and Mike at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial on the tidal basin. It was SO foggy when we got there (there was even an issued fog warning) but we didn’t let that stop us. The sunshine started rolling in, bouncing that beautiful light off the huge columns, and we could have just died. We took full advantage of the light and spent a majority of our session just at Thomas Jefferson. Once we decided to change outfits and locations, the fog returned and it was THICK. So thick in fact we actually had to take a few minutes to just chill and cross our fingers it was going to pass soon. Finally, it broke a bit and we got to shoot around the very limited bloomed cherry blossoms we could find. We missed full bloom by JUST TWO DAYS!! (Maybe next year, right?)
It was so nice to meet Erin and Mike for their Thomas Jefferson Memorial Sunrise Engagement Session in Washington DC, they are complete sweethearts and we just cannot wait for their 2023 wedding! Enjoy some of my favorites from their session while I send over their final gallery!
